Install MacOS High Sierra 10.13.4 on Dell 7000

Installing macOS on a Windows PC is a heck of a job especially when you try to install and make it work on new hardware or machine on which it has never been done. Starting from scratch could be hectic and require a huge amount of time. Take my example, I re-installed macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 around 10 times which took me more than 15 hrs and then I was finally able to update it to the latest macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 released in June 1, 2018. [UPDATED]

After several trials and errors, I was eventually able to make High Sierra work on my Dell 7000 laptop. The best part, 90% features are up and working. Only 10% which includes Facetime, iCloud, and Broadcom WiFi+Bluetooth M.2 module in my laptop. Currently, my Dell 7000 laptop has an Intel AC3165 WiFi+Bluetooth chip which is incompatible. However, Bluetooth is working but WiFi from Intel isn’t supported by macOS. Therefore, the only solution to this problem is either install a supported Broadcom chip or use a USB WiFi adapter such as TP-Link 823N (been using for 7 months & it works just fine with macOS)

  • Battery info with Power Management
  • Sleep
  • Laptop display
  • HDMI video output
  • Audio/Mic works with speaker/HDMI/3.5mm jack
  • Keyboard / Trackpad with Gesture Support (Not all)/ USB mouse

  • Brightness (with key control)
  • CPU Power Management
  • Heat sink fan (here means the fan will not always stay in low speed or no spin.)

Let’s begin with the installation steps:

Things you need:

  • A 16GB USB Thumb Drive(preferably USB 3.0).
  • TransMac or Win32Disk Manager Installed on Windows.
  • Hackintosh Sierra Zone 10.13.dmg Disc Image File (5.3GB approx.).
  • A Laptop or PC powered by any 7th Gen Intel Kaby Lake Processor
  • A hard drive or SSD where Mac OS will be Installed. You can also use an External USB 3.0 HDD or SSD. Make sure it’s empty.
  • You must download this zip folder containing Clover files to load Mac OS (very important files).

Step 1. Prepare your System

  • Disable Secure Boot and USB secure level.
  • Disable Intel VT-d
  • To make USB boot, add USB EFI location manually in BIOS/Boot options or use boot menu key, usually F12, to enter boot option menu

Step 2. Create High Sierra Installation Disk

  1. Connect the USB stick to the system
  2. Install Transmac utility and launch it in administrator mode
  3. Right-click on USB disk and choose Format Disk for Mac and press Yes when prompted
  4. Right-click again and choose Restore with Disk Image. Click three dots and browse the High Sierra dmg file you downloaded from the link given under ‘Things You Need’ section
  5. Press Ok and wait for it to finish
  6. After the process is finished, Open the Bootloader folder and delete everything. Then paste the EFI folder that you download from the link under ‘Things You Need’ section
  7. Now Restart your system

Step 3. Install macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 on Kaby-Lake Powered Laptop

  1. Start pressing the boot menu key, usually F12, to select the USB. Hit Enter to boot from USB
  2. Click Install from Hackintosh High Sierra Installer. Wait for files to load
  3. Choose language and click Utilities from the top menu
  4. Select Disk Utility, select the Disk where you want to install the High Sierra and click Erase
  5. Double-check the Disk before proceeding
  6. Enter Disk Name and Choose Mac OS Journaled from the option and click Erase
  7. Wait, when finished, close Utility and select the HFS formatted disk from the listed disks
  8. Click Install to begin Installation
  9. After installation, click ‘Restart’
  10. Follow Instruction no. 1 and choose USB drive
  11. This time choose the Disk name where you installed High Sierra and let it boot. In our case, the disk name is ‘High Sierra’
  12. After boot, setup your Hackintosh
  13. After setup is complete, use Clover configurator to create EFI partition
  14. Use EFI mounter app, to mount the EFI partition of your High Sierra installation disk
  15. Delete everything from the EFI folder and copy the EFI folder we provided
  16. Now Restart the system and remove USB drive. Press F12 and choose the High Sierra disk
  17. Click on the High Sierra disk and let the system boot
  18. Move the High Sierra Disk to top from BIOS so you don’t need to select the boot disk every time.

That’s all, you have a working High Sierra laptop. Follow this guide to configure Power, Trackpad, Audio/Mic, etc.

Upgrading to macOS High Sierra Latest Update

Using this Hackintosh laptop, you can install macOS 10.13.5 using Unibeast. Go to App Store and download High Sierra 10.13.5. Connect same USB flash drive, use Disk Utility, and format it to macOS Journaled with Scheme as ‘GUID’.

  • Run Unibeast and then Click Continue, Continue, Continue, Continue, & Agree
  • In Destination Select, choose USB and click Continue
  • On Select OS Installation screen choose Sierra and click Continue
  • On Bootloader Options screen choose UEFI Boot Mode & click Continue.
  • Verify installation options, then click Continue, enter the password and click Install
  • Use EFI Mounter app to mount the EFI partition of the USB drive
  • Replace the existing EFI folder with the one we provided

Finally, restart your system and follow STEP 3. to install the macOS 10.13.5 High Sierra on any Intel Kaby lake powered Laptop or PC.

Conclusion

We learned how to install macOS High Sierra on a Windows Laptop or PC powered by a Kaby-Lake processor without using Macbook. We used the Windows environment to install the macOS High Sierra 10.13 that can be updated via AppStore to High Sierra 10.13.5 with the latest security updates without any issue. However, please note that not all apps are compatible with High Sierra as of now but popular apps are working fine. I also recommend you to install Sierra 10.12.6 which is compatible with all apps.

Hi,

I followed this step by step and everything was fine, until I came to setting up Mac OS X after the new install, and the trackpad and keyboard wont work (laptop)

Also, it wont let me connect to the internet via wi-fi, and when it gets past selecting the network, it just freezes with the spinning wheel

Any ideas?

Thanks!
