In DOS Operating system we didn’t had the Graphical user interface and all tasks were performed by running code lines.  CMD is a very powerful tool that you can use to perform any task, from repairing a corrupt USB storage device to removing freaky virus that auto creates shortcuts in a USB storage device (eg. pen drive, flash drive, SD card etc.) and much more. What is a Shortcut Virus and How to Remove it

The most common infection is Flash drive Shortcut virus, then the File and Folder Shortcut virus. You may have noticed that these shortcut virus ends with either .EXE, .VBS. LNK or .INI file extensions. Following are the viruses that may be present in your USB storage or PC,

  • Emsisoft – Trojan.VBS.TTE (B), Trojan.Generic.7206697 (B).
  • ESET – VBS/Autorun.EY worm, Win32/Ramnit.A virus.
  • Microsoft Security Essential – Worm:VBS/Cantix.A.
  • McAfee – VBS/Autorun.worm.k virus.
  • AVG – VBS/Worm.BH.
  • Bitdefender – Trojan.VBS.TTE.
  • ClamWin – VBS.Agent-35.
  • Quickheal – VBS/Canteix.AK.

You may think it as a small virus but be warned that this is a combination of trojan and worm. They hide the original files and creates shortcuts of the original files and folders present in the storage device.
