2 Questions-
1>First of all whats the difference between running the live version of it already shown in the options and installing it to another pendrive for running it.
2>I tried running it from the live version without the installation without installing. It was very slow in booting. So slow it was that I couldnt even reach to the home menu or the interface. Will installing it improve my speed??
Thanks in advance

Is it possible to create an android 4.4.4r3 usb drive , but boot a virtual machine from it? Would it be faster?

I’d like to have a dual android/windows boot, but don’t want to risk having boot or windows issues.. would like to have a vmware image that can boot from a usb3 drive and run android when I want.

Can this be done? Is android 4.4.4r3 the most stable release or is 5.0.2 just as good?

First, Go to Android-x86.org and install Latest version. Most of the bugs are removed and you should always start with the latest version. If the problem still persists, let me know and i will help you!
