With PS4’s recent firmware update, Sony has now allowed the gamers to play PS4 games on Windows PC or Mac. By activating the PS4 Remote Play option, people can play their favorite games on any Windows or Mac PC. Similar feature was also added recently by Its rival, Xbox One, which enables you to play your Xbox One games via your PC (Windows 10) with the new Xbox app. Following the same Sony also updated the PS4 firmware to allow you to play all your PS4 games on Windows and Mac that could be located either on your home network or remotely.

How to Play PS4 Games on Windows or MAC PC

Requirement and Compatibility for PS4 Remote Play:

Remote Play on PS4 is compatible with Windows 8.1 and above, OS X Yosemite and OS X El Capitan. Minimum system requirements are listed below,

For Windows OS :

  • A computer with either of the following operating systems.
    • Windows® 8.1 (32-bit or 64-bit)
    • Windows® 10 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Intel Core i5-560M Processor 2.67 GHz or faster
  • 100 MB or more of available storage
  • 2 GB or more of RAM
  • 1024 x 768 or higher display resolution
  • Sound card
  • USB port

For Mac OS :

  • A computer with either of the following operating systems.
    • OS X Yosemite
    • OS X El Capitan
  • Intel Core i5-520M Processor 2.40 GHz or faster
  • 40 MB or more of available storage
  • 2 GB or more of RAM
  • USB port

Before proceeding to next step, please make sure that your PS4 is running the latest firmware. To check this, go to Settings > System Software Update (Latest firmware currently is 3.5). Update your PS4 system to the latest version.

Setting up PS4 for Remote Play:

  1. Open Settings on your PS4 and head to Remote Play Connection Settings. Check the box that says Enable Remote Play.
  2. Next, head to PlayStation Network/Account Management under Settings option and follow this path: Activate as Your Primary PS4 >Activate. This will make sure that PS4 is listed as your primary device.
  3. Finally, go to Power Saving Settings under Settings and look for Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Check the options that says Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on of PS4 from Network.

Installing PS4 Remote Play application on Windows PC and Mac:

  • To install the PS4 Remote Play application, download the application for your operating system from Remote Play download page.
  • Now, connect your PS4 controller to your PC. Note that Remote Play works only with a PS4 controller, so, make sure that you are carrying one with you while traveling.
  • Using your Sony login credentials, sign in. Now, Remote Play will automatically search for PS4 and register it under few minutes.

Now, everything is good to go. With a Wi-Fi connection, you can access PS4 from anywhere (loccaly and remotely)

Troubleshooting and fixes – if Remote Play does not work

If you are not able to find Remote Play or if you detect any stability issues, follow these instructions:

  • Please make sure that you are using a high-speed internet connection with at least 5Mbps speeds. You can check your speed by access Network > Test Internet Connection option in Settings.
  • If your PC is on the home network, try using a wired connection (much faster) between your PS4 system and computer.
  • Make sure that your PS4 system and PC is closer to the router.
  • You can try reducing the video quality on PS4 Remote Play from the Remote Play’s preferences setting.
