As of roughly January 10th I have noticed that Firefox no longer plays YouTube in the background. I had not performed an update to the app.
I did notice a newer release and have updated – functionality is still gone.
Are you noticing this as well?

No, may be you are using some power saving app or settings that restricts background data usage. I use Firefox browser almost regularly and it still works.

I’m having the same issue, where Firefox follows the viewing screen focus, and stops playing anytime you navigate away from YT vids. No longer plays in the background.

I am using Firefox v50.1.0 and it plays video in Background. I don’t know what’s wrong but this happens to me only when i use Power Saving Mode in my S7 edge which restricts background Data usage. Otherwise, it still working.

I’ve just downloaded newest version of firefox, and play-in-backgound future doesn’t work for me as well.
